The UKHPHL E-mail Discussion Group

  • is a discussion, information and support network for health professionals with hearing loss.

  • We welcome anyone with any degree of hearing loss who is, or is considering training to become, a health professional in any discipline.

  • We also welcome those with close involvement with health professionals with hearing loss, for example health professionals working with the D/deaf and hard of hearing, those in departments of education and training and professional bodies, occupational health and disability officers.

  • We also recommend the website and forum of the Association of Medical Professionals with Hearing Losses. Membership is international, most being in the USA. With a longer history of disability access in the USA than in the UK, they are a rich source of experience.

  • Some information, such as funding, legislation, occupational health services, training courses and equipment supply varies between countries so the ukhphl e-mail group can be a forum to share this information. It is also an opportunity to build a supportive network because sometimes it can be helpful to know people closer to home.

  • RNID membership - special offer for members of UKHPHL email group. Join RNID for the special price of £10 for the first year. The standard rate for those in full time employment is £22.. For more information, click here.

Confidentiality

Messages and e-mail addresses are not made available to non-members. If you join the group, your own e-mail address will be visible to other members only if you post a message. Your e-mail address is otherwise visible only to the group manager for administrative purposes and will be kept confidential.

How to join - automated process

It's very easy to join the group. The automated process sends a couple of mails to you. You reply to one of them and receive a welcome message. The automated mails have a lot of extra information in them, much of which can safely be ignored if you find it confusing! For step by step instructions, read on ...

  • To join the ukhphl e-mail group, send an e-mail to majordomo{at}hphl.org.uk with the following command in the body (not the subject line) of your email message:

subscribe ukhphl

  • If you are sending this mail from a different account to the one you will be using to read and post messages in the e-mail group, send the command:

subscribe ukhphl e-mail_address_you_want_to_use

  • Two e-mails will automatically be sent to the e-mail address you want to subscribe.

  • The important one is the confirmation message which explains how to confirm your subscription.

  • It tells you to reply to majordomo{at}hphl.org.uk leaving only the confirmation code it gives you in the body of the mail. (This process is to prevent someone subscribing you maliciously to many lists.)

  • The other e-mail sent you is the "results" mail. For most purposes, you can safely ignore it. For the keen, it has more information about the commands used by the e-mail group software.

  • If your confirmation e-mail went through successfully, you will be sent an automatic welcome message which includes information about how to post messages to the group.

  • If you do not receive the welcome message, please contact me.

How to join - the easy way!

If you do not feel confident doing this yourself or have problems with it, please feel free to contact me and I will join you to the group as soon as I can. This will usually be within 24 hours.

To leave e-mail group

If you ever want to remove yourself from the e-mail group, you can send mail to majordomo{at}hphl.org.uk with the following command in the body of your email message:

unsubscribe ukhphl

or from another account, besides the one you subscribed to the group.

unsubscribe ukhphl your_subscribed_e-mail_address

As with the automated subscription process, you will be sent a confirmation request mail.
